In focus – Life Sciences Engineering for the process industry

item is at ACHEMA in Frankfurt to show how companies in the pharmaceutical, chemical and process industries can use the holistic principles of Life Sciences Engineering to lay the foundations for lean, ergonomic and standard-compliant production. In addition to the MB Building Kit System, item is showcasing machine cabins (Line XMS), lean production solutions and ergonomic applications for cleanrooms. What’s more, all item products are made exclusively of aluminium – a material that offers numerous advantages to the life sciences sector, as visitors can see for themselves at Stand A 68 in Hall 9.1.

The requirements for plants in the life sciences sector are high. Construction elements and factory equipment in cleanrooms must be smooth and easy to clean. What’s more, they shouldn’t produce any particles and, as far as possible, must be connected without forming any cavities. Using aluminium offers a number of benefits when trying to meet these stringent criteria. For example, elements don’t need to be welded together, which means equipment can be modified with ease as and when necessary. Moreover, this light metal boasts lower material costs than steel and a more visually appealing surface.

Cleanliness is everything

item Life Sciences Engineering offers users in the sector fit-for-purpose, modular profile technology made from aluminium components. Plants and equipment built using these satisfy both GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requirements. If necessary, constructions can be easily modified to accommodate new circumstances such as changes in space requirements – and all without generating large volumes of particles, since the modular components can be easily screwed together. Line X from item is the ideal solution for building structures with smooth, unbroken surfaces that are suitable for use in cleanrooms. The minimised edge radius of Profiles X enables a virtually seamless transition between individual profiles. The solution also supports aseptic production and filling operations. Meanwhile, Line XMS ensures that compartments and machine enclosures can be securely shut to seal and separate off sensitive production areas. The cables and leads in machine cabins are also safely protected inside cable conduits, which makes cleaning work much easier.

The item stand at ACHEMA will be demonstrating how companies can roll out lean and efficient production practices, too. Thanks to lean production solutions and engineering that follows ergonomic principles, users can achieve maximum flexibility and make working processes increasingly lean, without jeopardising the requirements profile of internal and official audits.

Visitors to ACHEMA can explore every aspect of Life Sciences Engineering at Stand A 68 in Hall 9.1.
